mission statement: To
promote and develop the integration of faith and
the life of the mind.
what is the Swanson
Center?: It is a study center where
the
integration of faith and academia are explored by virtue
of the
content of the collection of books in the study center.
It is also a
place to study, read, research, relax and experience community.
what does this mean?:
We have a 600 volume collection of
philosophical/theological books that relate to the orthodox
Christian
perspective, along with late night hours, free coffee,
tea and free
wireless internet.
why are we called
the "Swanson Center"?: We
are named after Mike
Swanson, a Cal Poly alumni in Philosophy. Mike contributed
much thought and many
resources to open the doors to our study center.
He has
been inspirational and generous in his thought and time
and we are
very thankful for his contributions.
when did the Swanson
Center open?: The Swanson Center
officially
opened in April of 2005.
why do we feel the
study center needs to exist?: We feel
that the
Swanson Center fulfills a need of this generation. Faith
and the
intellectual life of the mind have been so segregated over
the years
that we would like to serve to restore this relationship.
We would
like students of all faiths and beliefs to find the Swanson
Center a
place where they are challenged to consider more, and are
given the
opportunity to expand their minds in regards to faith and
the life of
the mind.
